Makeup Geek Haul! Quick First Impressions!

Cover pic
Guess who’s back?!?! ME!!! Okay take a seat and settle down people. I’m going to tell you a story about my crazy awful week from last week. So basically it was midterms week and I wanted to study right?! Like that’s what we’re supposed to do during midterms (does that actually happen?). Anyways, for some reason, there were all these other events that were stacked right on top and midterms week that I just couldn’t get out of, unfortunately. SO, I pretty much ended up going crazy last week. Worst of all, I was away from the blogging community and didn’t have time to make any posts (sad face here). Tragic, I know! BUT I am back! I have a week and a half’s worth of posts to read but I CAN’T WAIT to see what you guys have been up to. AND! Can you tell how excited I am? I have a Makeup Geek Haul for you guys! Okay so my pics are crap. I’m slowly recovering from last week and getting back into things but for now you’re gonna to deal with these pics. Anyway, story time’s over, enjoy my haul! Swatches will be coming! I wanted to do on my actual review for these products not on this one. So stay tuned for that!

vegas light collage

First we have the Vegas Lights Palette! This is a gorgeous palette with breathtaking colors but I don’t like how things can get messy fast. I swatched around the palette if you can tell by the mess I made, some of the shadows were powdery. The shadows were buttery and soft but you can make a mess easily with these. I love the packaging but I can already tell that it’s going to be a messy palette. I can’t say much other than. I have yet to try the palette out, so stay tuned for my review.

So for this one, I’m doing a first impression on the Z-palette that I also purchased from Makeup Geek. We’ll get to the shadows later, don’t worry! I like the palette and the design. It seem sturdy and easy to use but I’ll have to put it to the test. From what I hear about Z-palettes, they’re supposed to be versatile and travel friendly. So I’ll have to place it in my purse of DOOM to see if it lives up to the hype.

Okay! We’re on to the shadows! Yeah, I know you scrolled all the way down just to see this. I will just give a brief review and first impression. I have swatched and tried everything on this palette except for the foiled shadows: Caitlin Rose and High Wire. So I’ll start with that since I’ve only swatched them. One word: beautiful! It was pigmented, soft, and buttery. But I haven’t tried it on lids yet, so I’ll have to wait on a full review until I actually do try them out. The blush is stunning. It’s a universal color and it looks super natural on the skin. So, if you want to get a blush from Makeup Geek and you don’t own any, get this one because it will look good on anyone. Okay…so before I get into this. Please REMEMBER this is a first impression. I’ve only played with them a couple times and this is my own opinion. So far, to me these shadows did not live up to their hype which is disappointing BUT that doesn’t mean I don’t like them and I think they’re a complete failure. NO. They are good eye shadows but I don’t think they’re these super awesome, best eye shadow of all time type of shadows that people have hyped them up to be. They are definitely pigmented. The best performing shadows for me so far are creme brulee, unexpected, and mocha. These were soft and easy to blend. The reason why these were the best was because they weren’t as dry as the other ones. All these shadows except for the foiled shadows, had a weird dry texture to them. The three that I liked the most were the least dry. Frappe was good too but it was most dry than the others. Barcelona Beach and Duchess felt very dry. So why is that a problem? When you start digging your brushes into them, they start feeling powdery the more dry they are. When I started blending, I had a really hard time with the shadows the more powdery they were. Sometimes, it even made my eye makeup muddy. As for the wear time, it was great. I wore it for a full day and it definitely stayed. I think these shadows just take some getting used to. I’ll keep you guys updated on what happens with these.

Well that’s pretty much it! Hope you guys enjoyed my haul/first impressions.

Thanks for stopping by!

As Always,
Nicole ❤

Benefit’s Roller Lash Mascara Review

benefit roller lash collage

A few weeks ago, I did an Ulta haul. In that haul, I picked up the Benefit’s Roller Lash Mascara. To be honest, when I first got this I was really skeptical. First of all, this is not the type of mascara that I would usually stray towards but I gave in because of all the hype and the fact that I love all the other mascaras from Benefit. So I wanted to see if this mascara lives up to its hype.

After wearing only this mascara for a week, I was hooked. At this point, I have been wearing this mascara for about a month and has been the only mascara I have worn all month long. I can honestly say that this mascara is now a holy grail product for me. NOW, just because I say that this is a holy grail FOR ME, doesn’t mean that it will be the same FOR YOU. The Roller Lash Mascara is a holy grail for me because it fulfills everything I want from a mascara but on an emphasized level, NOT because it lived up to its promises.

If you want to know more about my thoughts in detail for this product then keep reading.

What it’s Advertised to Do: The mascara is advertised mainly to curl, lift lashes and give a wide-eyed look. It was also stated that this mascara is meant to hold for 12 hours and contains vitamins that will condition the lashes. They also stated that you won’t need an eyelash curler when using this product.

Brush & Application: My picture does not show the brush well but you can take a closer look at it here. The brush was inspired by rollers but it reminds me more of a spiky hair brush. This brush is very slim. It’s definitely slimmer than any other mascaras I’ve had or tried and I do like it that way. I have short lashes and when a mascara brush is too fluffy or big, it becomes difficult to work with. But this brush made it a breeze to put on mascara especially for the lower lash line. The brush is slim and small, so it made it easy to coat even the shortest bits of my lashes. Also, because the bristles of the brush were spiky, it was really easy to separate my lashes with brush and probably the reason why there was no clumping. SO A+ for the brush!

My Experience with the Roller Lash Mascara and What it Did for my Lashes: During my first application, the first thing I noticed was how dark my lashes were and how long they got with just one coat. After the second coat, I noticed that my lashes were more lifted than they originally were. I also noticed a little more volume to my lashes. I got about the same results every time I have worn this mascara and I really like the results. It also lasts for quite a while. I didn’t time if it was for 12 hours but it definitely lasted well over 8 hours. Overall, this mascara lengthened and lifted my lashes, gave my eyes a wide-eyed look and added a little volume to my lashes.

Did it Live Up to Its Hype and Promises?: First of all, I just want to note that just like everyone’s hair is different, then lashes will too. Now that that’s out of the way, back to the mascara. For it’s promises, because of the length and lift that it gave me, I can definitely say that the promise of a wide-eyed look was achieved. It also lasted quite a while, so I would check off the whole 12 hour lasting effect. Now, the big main attraction for this mascara was if it curled and did it last? That would be a definite NO. For my experience, I didn’t really see it curl my lashes. I had long lasting lifted lashes but not curled lashes. In fact, this mascara lengthened my lashes more than it curled. Did it live up to its hype? Honestly, I’m not sure how to answer this one because people probably had varying experiences but I definitely think it’s worth the hype that it’s a good mascara but not for what it’s advertised as but like I said, everyone has different lashes, so your experience might be different than mine.

Why Do I LOVE This Mascara so Much?: My lashes have a natural lift to them but they’re not completely straight or curled either. They’re short and have quite a bit of volume to them. The main problem with them is that they’re short. I already have small eyes, dark circles and the occasional baggy eyes in the morning. Usually worse on busy weeks. This mascara give me A LOT of length, lift and wide awake look to my eyes which is exactly what I want for a mascara plus some volume and blackened lashes which just emphasizes my lashes more and makes my eyes look even more awake. So it might not have lived up to its promises but hey I’m okay with that as long as gives my lashes the look I want!

Anyways, thanks for reading!

TTYL!

April Favorites 2015

cover pic

It’s finally May! I gotta be honest, April felt like it was never gonna end. It was a busy and stressful month but I got through it. Anyways, it’s time for April favorites! After all the hauls I’ve done for the past two months, I found a bunch of new favorites along with possible holy grails. Hope you guys like my favs for April. Enjoy! Don’t forget to tell about your favorites for April in the comments section. Feel free to link you favorites post if you have one. I’d love to check it out.

For April’s favorites, My Melody will be joining us as I show you guys my favorites.

Heart on collage
First, I have a lippie stix and lip pencil from ColourPop both in the color Heart On. It’s a magenta color with some red tones. I love that they added the red tones to Heart On. It makes the color more wearable and toned down. I can’t wear some magenta colors because they’re too bright and clashing with my skin tone but this is more wearable for people who have darker skin tones because of the red tones in it.

Mac high strung collage
Since it’s spring, my looks have been more colorful than usual. I needed something to be toned down, so I’ve been wearing this High Strung by Mac with my colorful looks. It’s a beautiful champagne rose color with some silver shimmer. Beware with the looks you wear this lipstick with! It is a frost finish, so if you’re not careful, it can make you look flushed and zombie like. I have a medium skin tone and it’s still wearable for me. But if you have a lighter skin tone (especially those who are really pale), this is going to look gorgeous on you!

Mac Melba Collage
I picked out another Mac product. This time it’s a blush and in the color Melba. It’s a matte warm coral, peach blush. This blush looks great with any warm look and it’s also a universal color. It’s one of those blushes that will look good on anyone in any skin tone. A lot of my looks have been warmer because of the spring season and upcoming summer season. When I didn’t want to think about what blush to wear, I would just choose Melba and it would look great with whatever warm look I had for that day.

Becca Opal collage
There’s not much I can say about this highlighter. If you haven’t tried or heard of Becca’s Opal highlighter, you need to. It’s amazing! Seriously, go out and try it at Sephora or Ulta. My swatch is crap but even if I got a good one, you wouldn’t be able to tell how gorgeous it is until you try it. It’s also a universal color. I believe that it will look great on any skin tone.

roller lash mascara
I have a review coming up for this. I’m sure a lot of you have heard about Benefit’s Roller Lash mascara. There’s been some controversy on whether it lives up to the hype and its promises. I will voice out my opinion on my review but in general, I really like. It’s the only mascara I’ve worn this month.

beauty blender
First of all, I apologize that my Beauty Blender is dirty. I used it for the past two day and haven’t had time to clean it. I bought this in October and I just opened it halfway through March. There’s been so much hype about it but I never really jumped on the hype until now. I guess I was scared of it. In the makeup world, sponges are looked down on because of sanitary issues but this stuff is awesome! It’s so easy to use and it applies my foundation better than my current foundation brush. It also makes my foundation look more natural and flawless. I’m glad I finally tried it.

belief moisturizer
My daytime moisturizer ran out months ago. I’ve using my First Aid Beauty cream moisturizer which I love because it healed my skin during the fall and winter season. I still love it even now but I felt it was too heavy to use in the morning, so I picked this up about a month ago and so far I love it. This is gel based but it feels so light and moisturizing. Perfect for a daytime moisturizer.

batiste blush
Batiste Dry Shampoo is officially my favorite dry shampoo. First of all, I’m happy with the price and it goes on sale often at Ulta. Also, it sprays on white powder but it doesn’t stay on white on your hair. I have lighter hair now but I still have dark roots and with all other dry shampoos I’ve tried, I always had an issue with the white powder not fading away no matter how much I comb or massage my hair. But this dry shampoo’s white powder actually fades away. This one is blush, I want to try other scents but they were all sold out 😦

love is heavenly
This is my favorite perfume from Victoria Secret. I am obsessed with scent. Everything about this scent screams spring and summer to me for no particular reason. I don’t really know what else to say about it. This stuff smells amazing and perfect for the upcoming season.

Alright that’s pretty much it. I hope you guys enjoyed it!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful day!

As always,
Nicole ❤
