No Buy Lip Products for 2016 Challenge!

lip sticks

Hey guys! I hope you all had a wonderful new year! I for one am very excited to greet the year of 2016 with a no buy challenge for myself. It’s basically my new year’s resolution. This idea was inspired by the lovely blogger, Stash Matters. Her blog centers on treasuring her remarkable makeup collection and resisting the urge to add purchase new products. So make sure you check her out!

My No Buy Lip Product challenge is very similar to that idea. I am a crazy lip product junkie. My favorite makeup products are lipsticks and my lipstick collection has just gotten out of hand. So I decided not to buy any lip products for 2016 starting January 1st. I won’t even allow myself to buy chapstick because I’m pretty sure, I have enough lying around to last a year.

Every month, I pledge to create a significant post concerning any of my lip products. I might even make more than one post a month depending on my schedule but I don’t want to promise any more than that just in case.

I’m really excited to see how well I do on this challenge and how much money it’ll save me. I’ll have updates every now and then about how I’m doing for this challenge. Thanks so much reading!

Until next time!

Nicole ❤

Simple Micellar Cleansing Water Review

screen-shot-2015-03-17-at-1-39-12-pm

The new makeup removal trend has been the micellar cleansing water. I’m a little late on the hype for this but I finally gave it a try. I love the idea of using this to clear your eye makeup and also your face makeup. I thought that if I could make this work, then I don’t have to use an eye makeup remover and cleansing oil to take my makeup off. It would just be one product which is very convenient.

More companies are coming out with this type of cleanser but the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water was the most accessible for me. Bioderma (one of the most hyped ones out there) can only be accessible to me through online purchase and Garnier Micellar Water is not available in my area =( However this one was everywhere! I saw it at Target, Ulta, and pretty much every drugstore I went to. So I decided to give it a try.

Makeup Removal: For the most part, this is probably the most important aspect of this product and to me it fell short of its promises. It claims that it can also remove eye makeup and while it excelled in removing my face makeup and eye shadow, I found that it struggled to remove waterproof makeup. In the end, I still had to use my eye makeup remover to completely take my mascara and eyeliner off.

Is it hydrating? Short answer, not really. One of the claims that this product makes is that it is supposed to leave your skin hydrated after use. However, my skin just felt like it always does. My skin didn’t feel hydrated at all but it did not feel dry either which can happen sometimes when I’m using cleansing products.

For sensitive skin? Absolutely! That is probably the best thing about this product. Usually my skin would have reaction during the first week of trying new skin care products but not for this one. My skin was completely fine even on the first use. It also did not irritate my skin which some makeup removal products tend to do.

Would I repurchase and recommend? I will probably not be repurchasing this product and I would not recommend it to MOST people. To me, it’s not that different from my cleansing oil except my cleansing oil hydrates my skin a lot more and since I have dry skin, that extra hydration is necessary. HOWEVER, I DO RECOMMEND this to people that like to do the whole makeup removal strip down where you remove your eye makeup with an eye makeup remover and a cleansing oil for your face. There are some people that struggle with cleansing oils because it does not work well with their skin. This can work as a cleansing oil if your skin cannot handle cleansing oils. It’s very gentle on the skin and will still remove face makeup.

I still have hope for micellar water cleansers. I just need to find the right one for me. If you have tried any micellar water cleansers then please comment down below and recommend them!

Birchbox October 2015

Hello my lovely ladies and gents! Today I have an exciting new subscription box to share with you guys! It’s my Birchbox subscription for October 2015! It might not be new to most people. I’m sure a lot of you have heard about Birchbox. But it is new to me.

I never considered Birchbox because I always wanted more full size products when it came to subscription boxes. For those of you not familiar with Birchbox, they are a subscription box company that sends out samples sized products every month for $10 a box. Lately I’ve been seeing more and more people post their Birchbox with samples of items that I want to try with a decent amount of product despite the fact that they are sample sizes. So I decided to give it a try and it turned out better than I could have hoped. This is probably my 4th box now and I have loved every box so far. I’ve ended up trying everything in the box and loved most if not all things that I received.

So I guess it goes without saying that I am very satisfied with Birchbox! Anyways, here’s what I recieved for the month of October.

Alright, I know it doesn’t look like much but there’s a bunch of awesome things in this box. And it’s really pretty!

This is the Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo. I have heard so many amazing things about this dry shampoo. I’ve been so curious about it but I just couldn’t bring myself to spend that much money when my favorite dry shampoo (Batiste) is only $7. Less if I have coupons. I want to see if it can really beat my Batiste and if it’s worth the splurge.

Next is the Eyeko Black Magic Mascara. I have never heard of this brand before but it does spark my interest. I’ve never seen a mascara in a tube before and I do like the brush at first glance. So I hope I end up liking this mascara.

This one is called ModelCo Ultra Long-Lasting Lipstick in Kitty. Personally, I don’t have high hopes for this. I’ve been way too disappointed by this brand. I’ve yet to find a product I like from this brand. But it is a nice color. I did swatch it but I lost the picture of the swatch. Swatching it went smoothly. It was creamy and felt hydrating on my hand but the pigmentation was lackluster. I’ll leave it at that.

This is the Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre. Good thing they have a description on the Birchbox flier because the description on the product was in french. This moisturizer claims that it heals dryness and preps the skin for makeup. So I guess it’s a primer and a moisturizer too? Those are huge claims for a moisturizer though.

Last but not the least is the Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels. I’m always excited when I get samples like these. I have panda eyes and always looking for ways to treat them or make them appear better. These types of pads are usually hard to come by and when they do, they cost a fortune and only have 5 packs in one set which usually means 5 uses. So I’m excited to try it!

Anyways thanks for stopping by!

Until next time!

As Always,
Nicole ❤

Cumulative Sephora Haul 2015

Cover Pic

For about half the year, I’ve been meaning to do this haul but kept putting it off. Now I’m finally doing it. So just be warned: I have a lot of stuff that I purchased from Sephora. I did not purchase this all at once. This is a very cumulative haul.

Anyways, I’m just gonna get into it and hope you guys enjoy. Please let me know if you are interested in a review for specific items.

clinique lip pop and cheek pop
swatches clinique

Clinique came out with their lip and cheek pop a while ago and I’ve been dying to try them. I finally picked some up over the summer. They are worth definitely worth the hype. Wow pop is a beautiful color specially over the summer but I would still wear it since it’s still been sunny. The lip pop is very creamy and pigmented. But it grips my lip nicely and stays on all day. Fig Pop looks coral on the swatch but it actually has some red-pink tones to it. I haven’t tried it yet but I’m sure it’s still going to look great even after summer. The red-pink tones make it wearable for all seasons. Pansy Pop is more of a lavender color even though it looks pink in the swatch. This would look amazing on people that have fair skin tones but it can still look great on people with darker skin tones but it’ll take a while to build it up on the cheeks. It actually looks better now that it’s fall on my skin tones because I pair it with either a dark red, berry or purple lip color and it gives me such a beautiful fall look.

IMG_1373

I got Sephora’s newest blush collection in Love at First Sight. Despite what it appears on the picture, this blush is pink with peach undertones. It’s basically an everyday easy to wear blush color for me. I just wanted to try it out after hearing great thing about it. I’m glad I did because it’s a great blush for a reasonable price tag. It’s pigmented, blendable, and light-weight. I also the Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlight. I find it weird that a highlight can be Matte but I wore this and it actually does kind of look matte. It’s really weird especially when I wear matte foundation with it. It’s a beautiful highlight that makes me look like I have a glow or the light is just hitting my face but I still look matte. Does any of this make sense?

lip sticks

I didn’t swatch these because I am planning to do something big about lip products. So I will have swatches for these soon, so watch out for a big announcement about lip products. But I will still name these (from left to right) Marc Jacobs Long Wear Lip Pencil in Primrose, Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick in Bow n Arrow, Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick in Beloved

born this way tf foundation

I just recently got this. I’ve been wanting it since it first came out but I wanted to finish some of my foundations first. So now I finally have it! This is the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation and I am in the color Sand. I’m not gonna say much about it. I plan to do a review in the future. I’m just gonna leave it at the fact that I like it.

anastasia palette
shadows

I saved the best for last! This is the Anastasia Beverly Hills World Traveler Palette! I’ve been seeing so many beautiful and edgy looks with this that I had to have it myself and make my own edgy and fun looks. What I love the most about it is that you can still create neutral everyday looks but also make crazy, bold, fun looks or have a pop of color and still keep it neutral. Definitely excited to play around with this more.

Alright, you guys made it! I hope you enjoyed my haul! Let me know if you want more info on anything I just hauled.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Until next time!

Tarte Holidaze Collector’s Set & Portable Palette Unboxing and First Impressions

6DAAD2FE-8FB7-4A42-8309-E52DAA6B6902-0

Hey guys! Just a quick first impression/unboxing post. A package from Tarte Cosmetics came today and I was so extremely excited at what’s inside the box that I decided to share it with you guys. I got the Home for the Holidaze Collector’s Set & Portable Palette! Tarte had a similar product like this last year during the Holidays and I didn’t get it when I had the chance. For the whole year, I was kicking myself for not getting the set. But they released another version of it this year and I am definitely not missing out on it.

This set is now available on the Tart Cosmetics website and also at Macy’s.

Processed with VSCOcam with k3 preset

Here’s the box or packing around the product. It’s pretty standard for a holiday makeup product but I like it. The color scheme is festive and gaudy as it should be.

18D167B9-E70A-409D-B9A9-2914B323AA1C

It comes with a travel size version of Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara and a travel size version of their Lip Surgence in the color Ravishing. Last but not the least, yes if you guys haven’t noticed yet, that is an empty palette. You can take the eye shadow and blush set and place them into the empty palette then interchange them as you desire. That’s the whole reason why I was so disappointed when I didn’t get this palette because of the whole interchangeable travel size palette. It’s a wonderful idea of a holiday palette. It’s very convenient and with events that might spontaneously occur out of nowhere as we approach the holidays, you might just need to take your makeup up a notch and this palette can come in handy for those types of situations.

Normally, I wouldn’t purchase products like these just because the colors are very standard and plain. Don’t get me wrong, they’re beautiful but they’re common neutrals and staples. This set contains browns, plums, taupe, and of course a smoky set of quads which is actually all the staples for fall, winter and the holidays. So with this set, I’m set to go for the rest of the season. The blushes are also really beautiful. Most of these would look beautiful on any skin tone.

Overall, I’m really excited about the palette! I can’t wait to play around with it and switch the quads around when I need to!

Thanks for reading! I’ll catch you guys next time!

As Always,
Nicole ❤

Ipsy Box September 2015

cover pic

I’ve had good run with Ipsy for probably a year now but it’s time for me to let go. This will be my last Ipsy box. There’s nothing wrong with Ipsy but for a few months now, I haven’t been getting anything that I’ve been interested in. I tried changing up my quiz and even doing more surveys of the products that I have received the past few months but sadly, nothing’s worked. Ironically, I decided to unsubscribe last month, but the last box they sent me ended up being a box that I would love. However, that has not changed my decision. I don’t want to get 4 month’s worth of boxes to be all misses then have the 5th box to be hit. It’s just not worth it anymore.

Since it’s my last box, I decided to share it with you guys! Enjoy!

ipsy nyx palette
Even though, I love nyx palettes, this might go to my mom. I have too many colors like this and I don’t need more but my mom will certainly enjoy it.

face scrub and moisturizing cream
Can’t wait to try these and very timely too. With fall and winter coming, my skin is gonna be as dry as the desert.

nail polish
I love nail polishes like these! Especially for the fall! There’s just something so fun about having a dark blood red nail polish. This nail polish is called Ignite.

city color lipstick
I’ve received something from this company before and honestly, I can’t remember if I liked it or not. But I’m guessing since I don’t remember, it was either a miss or mediocre. However, this one is not. I love the color and definitely something I would wear. I was also surprised about the swatch. The swatch was very creamy, smooth and pigmented. This color is called One Night Stand.
